Clinical Research: Experimental Therapeutics

This interface is in its early stages of development - the current strategy is outlined below:

• The Institute, in conjunction with the wider virtual Cambridge Cancer Centre will have translational programmes in selected common as well as rarer epithelial malignancies. Collaboration with academic and industrial partners, where appropriate, is expected in these programmes.
  
  
• Targets that arise from cell biology research will be refined through collaborations with chemistry/structural biology - a speciality field in Cambridge - before being passed on for further development.
  
  
• The Phase 1 Trials Unit will focus on targets and pathways in which there is local expertise, using this to develop genomic, imaging, and MR spectroscopy based PD assays through which we can add value.
  
  
• A genome-based clinical studies group will focus on small groups of very well-described patients (available through the well developed local Cancer Network) to elucidate mechanisms of resistance and response to existing and novel therapies.

These programmes are being developed in close collaboration with Professor Tim Eisen and others in the University's Department of Oncology.
